Pathways merged on the day I applied to begin the Diploma of Professional Counselling - my innate sensitivity and melancholy; my need to work through personal issues in self-acceptance; emotional over-eating; moderate depression and anxiety in earlier years;
I started the Diploma of Counselling when I was 19 in 2005. At the time I was working as a business representative for Optus and I became unhappy with sales. I always knew I wanted to be a psychologist from the age of 15 but because of some difficulties during my teenage years my high school marks didn't allow me to enter a Bachelor of Psychology.
My interest in counselling is long-standing, but only in the last few years have I seriously considered undertaking studies. I started a part time course in London which went swimmingly for the first year, until the following year's study was cancelled ‘due to lack of interest'. My desire to become a counsellor was further exacerbated by a terrific opportunity to work in a drug and alcohol clinic in London. Even though I was working in an administrative capacity, I found it absolutely fascinating and became very involved with the team and the clients - I had found my direction.
