It is an exciting accomplishment to now hold my Diploma of Professional Counselling in my hand, and indeed my heart, after two years of distance education with the College. And when that academic qualification translated recently into my long-cherished vocational goal, it felt as though some divine order had always been in place, assuaging even the most testing times experienced in 35 years in the workforce. Such is the feeling of reward as I marvel at how all the jigsaw pieces of my life, once extraneous, are now finally consolidated into counselling.
After what appeared to be countless millennia but in reality was the last thirty years of my life, the days merging into weeks, then morphing into months and transforming into years, it became a blur of sameness and lack of progress. I was evolving but it seemed to always appear that my life was on hold, I was in constant marking time, doing work for others without regard for myself and how I felt.
I never thought I'd be writing my own success story, just like the one's I read at the beginning of my studies. About halfway through the Diploma we were living on a remote island and experienced a traumatic house fire that destroyed ninety percent of our possessions; photo's, books, personal documents, clothes. However, I willingly chose to continue my studies as it enabled me to focus on the future and move forward.
